Christmas Tree and Wreath Pickup

Place trees/wreaths curbside. The Town will pick them up Wednesday, January 5th, Thursday, January 13th, and Thursday, January 20th, 2022. The LAST DAY for pick up will be Thursday, January 20th, 2022 (after this date, you'll be responsible for disposal).

Free E-Waste Event

The Town will host a Free E-Waste Event on Thursday, January 6th, 2022 from 7:00 a.m.- 3:00 p.m. With a make up day of Friday, January 14th, 2022 if it snows. Broken or obsolete electronic items will be accepted and recycled for free! There will also be a dumpster available for cardboard. Please flatten cardboard before placing it in the dumpster. 

Curbside Residential Refuse and Recycling Collection

The Town of Shelby provides refuse collection weekly. On Monday, refuse is collected from mobile home parks. On Tuesday, refuse is collected from homes north of the Hwy 14/61 overpass. South of the overpass, collection is on Wednesday. Recyclables are collected on the same day as refuse, but every other week. All recycling needs to be placed in the recycle bin, you can mix. Recycling and Refuse collection will be placed on the tax bill as a special charge. Guidelines for refuse and recycling, including a collection calendar are available at the town hall.
Cleaning your garage out?  Have a celebration and you have too much refuse to fit into your cart? 
Additional garbage tags are available at the Town Hall, $15 for 5 tags.  Place a tag on your extra refuse to be hauled away. 

Single Stream Recycling

Single Stream Recycling allows a wider range of materials to be collected, and ALL the recyclables (paper, plastic, aluminum) may be placed in one container.

*Brush should be placed curbside with the larger cut end facing the street for the road crew to chip. Trees and limbs too large for chipping (over 8 inches in diameter) or amounts over one pickup load must be picked up by a private tree service or taken to the La Crosse County Landfill at the property owner's expense. ONLY ONE PICK UP LOAD PER RESIDENCE PER BRUSH CYCLE.

Leaves, Grass and Garden Debris

Drop off site is located at the Town Hall Annex parking lot, April 1st - November 30th (weather permitting). Material must be removed from bags and dumped into the holding container. No Brush Accepted*Unlawful Dumping Citations will be issued to non-compliant persons.

Large Item Drop-Off *Fees May Apply

Large Item Drop-Off takes place from 7:00 a.m. to Noon at the Town Hall Annex parking lot on the following dates:

April 9th May 14th June 11th August 13th September 10th October 8th November 12th

Unacceptable Items

The following items will not be accepted on Large Item Drop-Off day: commercial, construction or demolition materials, carpeting (except in small amounts), animal waste, explosives, regulated hazardous waste (including paint) and cardboard.

*Unlawful Dumping Citations will be issued to non-compliant persons. Please make arrangements through a private refuse hauler or contact La Crosse County Solid Waste, 608-785-9999 to get your large items taken care of if they are not acceptable on Drop-Off day.
