Curbside Residential Refuse and Recycling Collection

The Town of Shelby provides refuse collection weekly. On Monday, refuse is collected from mobile home parks.  On Tuesday, refuse is collected from homes north of the Hwy 14/61 overpass.  South of the overpass, collection is on Wednesday. Recyclables are collected on the same day as refuse, but every other week. Recyclables include: newspapers and magazines, tin cans, clear and colored glass, plastic (No.'s 1 & 2 only) and aluminum cans. Aluminum cans, tin cans, glass and plastic should be co-mingled in the blue recycling bin.  Newspapers and magazines should be kept separate to avoid contamination and can be placed beside the other recyclables in a paper bag.  Guidelines for refuse and recycling, including a collection calendar, are available at the town hall. Additional or replacement recycling bins are also available for $9.

Leaves, Grass and Garden Debris

Drop off site is located at the Town Hall Annex parking lot, April - November ONLY. Material must be removed from bags and dumped into the holding container.

Brush

In small amounts, brush can be placed curbside with the regular trash in bundles no more than 4 ft in length, 6 inches in circumference and 40 lbs in weight.  Larger amounts of brush should be placed curbside with the larger end facing the street for the Shelby Road Crew to chip.  Call the town hall @ 788-1032 Ext. 7 and ask to be placed on the Brush List.  Trees and limbs too large for chipping or amounts over one pickup load must be hauled away at the property owners expense.

Large Items

Old furniture, appliances, tires, bicycles and other items too large for regular trash collection can be disposed of the second Saturday of each month, Apr-Jun and August-Nov, from 7AM to Noon at the Town Hall Annex parking lot. Charges to cover the cost of recycling appliances, televisions, computers and other recyclable large items are posted at the site.

Christmas Trees and Wreaths

Place curbside. The Town will pick them up until mid-January.
