The Shelby Fire Department provides fire protection and first responder services, fire safety inspection and education to an
area that includes the Town of Shelby, the western part of the Town of Greenfield including St. Joseph Ridge, and the southern part of the Town of Medary accessed from CTH F. A salaried Fire Chief and 35 volunteer fire fighters and first responders provide round-the-clock protection. Burn Permits for burning brush and Annual Fire Ring Permits for cooking or campfires outside of Goose Island Park are requiredand available at the town hall. There are no permit fees. If burning creates a nuisance and complaints are received, you will be asked to put the fire out. Violations of the burning ordinance are punishable by a fine of not less than $100 nor more than $500, 10 days imprisonment, plus all fire suppression costs. If unable to burn on the date the permit is issued for, please notify the Shelby Town Hall and request another date. A new date may be assigned up to seven days from the original burn date.
