The Shelby Fire Department provides fire protection and first responder services, fire safety inspection and education to an area that includes the Town of Shelby, the western part of the Town of Greenfield including St. Joseph Ridge, and the southern part of the Town of Medary accessed from CTH F.

A part time Fire Chief and 35 volunteer fire fighters and first responders provide round-the-clock protection.

Burn Permits for burning brush and Annual Fire Ring Permits for cooking or campfires outside of Goose Island Park are required and available at the town hall. There are no permit fees.
